Friendly Jack-o'-Lantern

For a fresh take on an old classic, try this simple jack ‘o lantern door cover. It is elegant, yet whimsy and will appeal to kids and adults alike. You need to prepare some supplies:

  • 2 rolls of orange wrapping paper
  • 2 sheets of black poster board
  • scotch tape
  • scissors and exacto knife
  • 1 bag of faux spider webs and spiders

DIRECTIONS

  1. Unroll the wrapping paper and tape it to the front of the door. Note: It took two rolls, and you overlapped a layer to wrap your entrance.
  2. Use an exacto knife to carefully cut around the door knob and lock.
  3. Cut two large triangles, and a mouth detail from the black poster board. Tape them to the door.
  4. Add faux spiderwebs and spiders as desired.

Hairy Monster

The monster Halloween door cover may be made out of basic, non-threatening materials and converted into a fantastic Halloween decoration in no time. Even yet, the door itself may be frightening enough to deter some trick-or-treaters from knocking.

Step 1: Cut a strip of painter’s tape the same width as the top of the door frame and face sticky side up. Split crepe paper into strips and attach to the painter’s tape.

Step 2: Attach crepe strips to the top of the door frame using clear packing tape. Create the mouth by cutting a strip of thick black tape and applying it toward the bottom center of the door. Split the black tape into thinner pieces and apply vertically on top of the horizontal tape strip.

Step 3: Cut off the rim of the black paper plates and mount the center of the plates to the yellow plates using clear packing tape. Attach the yellow plates to the white dinner plates and mount to the door using painter’s tape. Create the eyebrows by attaching one strip of the thick black tape above each eye.

Spooky Mummy

Another easy, but traditional Halloween decoration is a mummy.  Take a look at this cute idea to mummify your doors.

Supplies

  • Black plastic table cover
  • White crepe streamer
  • 2 yellow paper plates – 9in
  • 2 black paper plates – 7in
  • Painter’s tape
  • Clear packing tape
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors

Step 1: Mount black table cover to front doors using painters tape. Create a cutout around the doorknob by trimming off the excess material. Cut off extra material from the table cover at the ends of the door for a perfect fit.

To create the eyes, cut paper plates in half and attach the black plate halves on top of the yellow halves with double sided tape. Mount the eyes to the table cover using packing tape.

Step 2: String white crepe paper from one side of the door to the other. Use the double sided tape to attach the crepe paper to the table cover. Create a crisscross pattern as you add more crepe paper to make the mummy wrapping more full. Drape a few strips of white crepe paper out of the crisscross pattern to create a tattered mummy effect.

Finish off the door with other Halloween decorations like pumpkins, skeletons, and more!

Creepy Spiders

To add just a little bit of the Halloween creepy crawly feel to your holiday decor, this spider web door is just the thing. The spider web can be easily created using yarn.  Once you have your web, you can add in the spiders.

Supplies

  • Rope spider web
  • Spider props
  • Clear adhesive dots
  • Clear packing tape
  • Fishing line
  • Scissors

Step 1: String fishing line through the provided holes on the spider web. Pull the fishing line through the back side of the door to expand the web across the front of the door. Tape the ends of the fishing line to the back side of the door.

Step 2: Mount large spider props around the door frame and on the door with clear adhesive dots or fishing line. Attach smaller spiders onto the web with clear adhesive dots or fishing line for a finished look.

Helpful Tips To Make A Halloween Door Cover For Home Décor

We will help you understand the process of making a pumpkin door cover. From these steps, you can apply to projects with other themes.

Step 1: Measure Door

To get started on your decoration, measure the dimensions of your front way. When purchasing felt, add a few inches on each side of the measured dimensions for wiggle room.

Step 2: Cut Felt

Cut the felt to the size of your doors, making sure to keep the edges as straight as possible. For a door with an arched top, cut the felt to the door’s rectangular dimensions, then hold up the felt to the door and mark sections in the corners that need to be rounded.

Step 3: Cut Hole for Handle

To keep your front door functional, you’ll need to cut a hole in the felt for the handle. On your door, measure the height at which your handle starts and mark this location on your felt cutout. Then, cut a length of painters tape the same length as the door handle and place it on the felt at your measurement. Carefully cut around the piece of tape, then remove the tape and fabric scrap.

Step 4: Plan Design

To make this Halloween craft easier, you can freehand any pumpkin or monster face you like. Or you can print our free pumpkin stencil. Print and cut out the stencils for the nose, eye, and mouth of the jack-o’-lantern.

Step 5: Tape and Paint

Place painter’s tape along the outlines of the stencils, keeping the marker lines inside the tape. Use a foam paintbrush to fill in the shapes with your desired shade of paint. Let dry fully, then carefully remove the tape.
